ADMINISTRATION GEARS UP TO TACKLE ANY EXIGENCY IN RAINY SEASON : DC APRISES CS

JALANDHAR, (NIN NEWS) The District Administration has fully geared up to tackle any sort of exigency in case of floods and heavy rains in rainy season with completion of all five cleaning of drains and nine works to strengthen embankment of rivers especially Satluj.

Apprising the Chief Secretary V.K. Janjua through video conferencing about the current status of flood protection works in the district, Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh said allotted works had already been completed while the dressing works at two locations Danewal and Jhandi Peer were also on its last leg. The Deputy Commissioner also informed that a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) comprising 46 officials had been stationed at local Punjab Armed Police complex, which could be rushed to places where buildings were collapsed, protection & safe evacuation of people from flood hit areas etc. The Deputy Commissioner said the team was also disseminating the requisite information about the Do’s and Don’ts in case of floods, thunderstorm and lighting for safety and security of people.

Raking up issue of further strengthening the said unit of SDRF, Jaspreet Singh impressed upon that this unit could be bolster by giving further financial assistance. He said the number of officials in this unit could also be increased as this team often deployed at the sites of natural calamity not in Jalanshar but also in Doaba region.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also directed the line departments to initiate prompt action as and when they would come to know about any incident and floods, if any, during rainy season. He also asked the Powercom and Forests Department to immediately remove electricity poles and trees fell during unabated rains and high winds. The Deputy Commissioner also pointed out that necessary and elaborated arrangements had already been made under flood protection activities.
